A few weeks ago, we wrote about the ‘Save A Place To Call Home’ campaign and received a huge response and outcry to bring back the beloved program. Many of you in our community have got behind the movement and now they are asking for more action. Activists believe Channel 7 is at a critical juncture of reconsidering whether to continue the show. Your efforts might make a difference! Previous actions had you signing a petition, today the organisers of the campaign have released a new request to have you write letters. Their message to lovers of the now-defunct show is below:

“We need your help again with our ‘Save A Place To Call Home’ campaign. The focus of the campaign has always been writing letters and we need your help to add a few more to the thousands Seven have already received, and we need them now!

There are so many of us out there that love A Place To Call Home, and Seven has ultimately axed it because the audience was too old and not of as much value to advertisers as a younger audience. I am appalled at this, and my experience through our Facebook group – www.facebook.com/groups/SAPTCH – is that the audience for APTCH is truly multi-generational. There are wonderful stories of families sitting down to watch this show together and discussing the themes and how it was back then. What is the value of a person? Aren’t we all supposed to be equal? Apparently not. We need you to tell Seven that we are.

So how do you help? Well I’d love it if you would write Seven a letter asking them to bring back A Place To Call Home. If you watched it with your family then tell them this. The more we can tell them that it is a show the whole family can watch the more they will see that their demographics and ratings analysis is wrong. Tell them who watched it with you and their ages! Tell Seven that if they don’t bring it back you will not watch them any longer. Tell them you are tired of the same reality shows every year, which by all reports are just as expensive to produce as APTCH. It was reported recently that X-Factor costs $25 million a season to produce and air. I have heard that APTCH cost $1.5 million an episode, so for the cost of X-Factor we could get 16 episodes of APTCH. That’s more than a season. And they would be supporting our incredibly creative, brilliant and talented TV industry. Aren’t we always told to buy local? I say watch local too!

Address your letters to:

The Complaints Officer c/ Channel Seven
PO Box 777
Pyrmont NSW 2009

or you can fax them on 02 8777 7180. There is a fax service www.myfax.com/free that will let you send a fax from your computer for free. Have a look at the site, it’s easy to use and saves a trip to the post office – unless you like to actually write. Either way please send a letter today!”

Did you love ‘A Place to Call Home?’ Who did you watch it with and will you send Channel Seven a letter? Let us know!
