The newest (and coolest) smartphone: What it is and when you can get it…

As we continue to play crazed games on our iPhones (Candy Crush or Farm Story anyone?) another technology giant is creating their own smart phone… Complete with a 3D digital display just like old R2D2 from Star Wars… But which retailer is it and when can we get our hands on one?

What your smartphone could do… The hologram!

Yes, Amazon are about to enter the smart phone market with some interesting stand out features that really set it apart from the Apple iPhone or the Samsung galaxy. Here are some of the rumours floating around the tech-world today…

The holographic display is without a doubt the most outstanding feature. Remember those movies where people would put their phone on the table and out would pop a hologram of data? Now it will actually be able to happen! Pretty incredible when we thought we’d still be waiting another few decades for that technology.

We don’t know how, but it is also reported to have technology that allows you to navigate through screens using just your eyes. We really don’t understand how this technology called retina tracking will work, but we imagine it will be a pretty cool feature…

It will compliment the use of your Kindle by having a lower-spec version of the software, that talks to your Kindle. Every time you turn a page or put it down, your phone will know too so if you want to pick up reading while you’re somewhere else you can with total ease.

It will have multiple cameras on both the front and back of the phone for optimised photography. You will also be able to choose whether it uses all lenses for the one photo or whether it will take photos of the one image from all lenses, giving you better motion photography.

The big rumour that is floating around is that it is going to be priced a lot lower than it’s Samsung and Apple competitors. In order to avoid people sticking with the network carriers on locked phones, Amazon plan to offer an unlocked phone for a significantly reduced price compared to the Galaxy or iPhone. Kantar Worldpanel analyst Carolina Milanesi said, “That has to be the way,” she said. “If you don’t go cheap, you have to rely on the carriers.”

The phone has been announced to be available in the US in the second half of the year, so us Aussies can expect it about four to six months later. The rumoured market price for an unlocked model in the US is $179.00.

So, will you be choosing fun over loyalty and be moving to the Amazon smartphone? Would you buy a phone just because it has a hologram? Tell us in the comments below…
