Channel 7, in it’s string of cost-cutting has confirmed two months ago that A Place to Call Home will not continue next year.  And now the fans of the popular show are standing up to fight for it to come back with the movement called “Save A Place to Call Home”.  Knowing how passionate our Starts at 60 readers were about the show, we had to tell you how to get in on the petition that is coming together.  You can click here to visit the petition on Change.org.

The period-set TV Show, in its second series was a hit last year with it’s audience peaking at 1.47 million last year.  This year it has not been so hotly received with reported ratings of just over 855,000 a week ago.  The show starred Noni Hazelhurst, Marta Dusseldorp and Brett Climo and is set in Country NSW in the period following World War II.  It follows Sarah Adams (Marta Dusseldorp), who has returned to Australia after twenty years abroad to start a new life and ends up clashing with wealthy matriarch Elizabeth Bligh (Noni Hazlehurst). The main cast also consists of Brett Climo (George Bligh), Craig Hall (Dr. Jack Duncan), David Berry (James Bligh), Abby Earl (Anna Bligh), Arianwen Parkes-Lockwood (Olivia Bligh), Aldo Mignone (Gino Poletti) andFrankie J. Holden (Roy Briggs)

It was, in it’s first season described as a “compelling melodrama about love and loss set against the social change of the 1950s”.

The founder of the movement, Peter Vernon wrote to us asking for Starts at 60’s support.   “We all love the show and are very upset about the axing. It’s amazing how fired up and positive everyone is. I was really happy to see the response of your members too on your facebook page. I have been asking them to join our group to help the fight.”

The group has set up a Facebook page called ‘Save a Place to Call Home’ at https://www.facebook.com/groups/SAPTCH?.  On the page there is plenty of information about how they can get passionately involved.  They’ve had messages from the cast who are thrilled with the support and apparently have plans to hold events, and paper the TV station.

If you passionately love this show, as so many people told us they did, it might be time to get on board!
