The Perfect American by composer Philip Glass [Brisbane Festival]

Following high acclaim in Madrid and London, Brisbane Festival and OperaQ join forces to bring the latest opera from iconic composer Philip Glass to Brisbane in 2014.

The show is commissioned to mark Philip’s 75th Birthday. A stunning international and Australian cast and creative team make this one of the year’s most exciting music theatre events. Based on Peter Stephan Jungk’s novel, The Perfect American imagines the final months of Walt Disney’s life, including mythical imaginings of Abraham Lincoln and Andy Warhol.

The people behind this visually spectacular production include ingenious animated projections are British theatre director Phelim McDermott (Satyagraha, Metropolitan Opera) and leading international designer Dan Potra (Sydney 2000 Olympic Games opening ceremony) and conductor Gareth Jones (Sinfonia Cymru, ENO).

Acclaimed British baritone Christopher Purves is Walt Disney, while Cheryl Barker sings the role of Hazel, Disney’s nurse and confidante, and Kanen Breen is Andy Warhol.
