Farewell to Quentin Bryce

She’s Australia’s answer to Princess Diana and as regal as the Queen herself, and today is the last day of her extended post as our country’s first female Governor-General.

After five tireless years, we bid farewell to Quentin Bryce as our representative to the Queen and as a voice for the less powerful.

Her style and grace captured the eye of the nation, but it was her monumental effort in lending an ear to the people who needed it most that captured our hearts.

Listening to the people who had never been heard before by the influential became her most powerful trademark.

Her schedule never seemed to get the better of her; always appearing immaculately dressed and well versed for any occasion. After making 830 speeches (that’s about one every two and half days) it’s no surprise she had it down pat!

Last year she made headlines for her more political voice on the issue of gay marriage, which she emerged as in favour of. But it will be her philanthropic nature that she will most be remembered for; handing out food to the homeless with her husband on a regular basis, and visiting Syrian refugee camps in Jordan.

She will head back to her home state of Queensland tomorrow, where her five children and 10 grandchildren will welcome her home.

Incoming Governor-General Peter Cosgrove will fill the role on Friday.

What will you remember Quentin Bryce for?
