Your say: Respect for the dead

Jul 21, 2014

We’ve all been watch the tragedy of MH17 for the last three days in horror.  But what was a horrific international event in time is turning into an International crisis of epic proportion, perhaps one that needs someone to step in and value the lives of those that have been lost over political or separatist authority, ownership or infighting in my opinion.  Perhaps it is now becoming a job for someone’s military, or for the United Nations in what looks to be a bigger problem than any one country can cope with.  What do you think?

With the disaster affecting primarily the Dutch, the Malaysians and the Australians, more so than any other nation, it is rapidly becoming our problem to salvage those lost.  Whilst crews have packed up and loaded bodies onto refrigerated trains in the Ukraine, where those trains will go remain unknown and the remaining 80 odd bodies still not found deserve to be.  The closure for families is necessary, and more importantly we should find them so they aren’t left disregarded in a rather scary corner of the world.

The disaster however doesn’t rate in the eyes of some of the world’s most powerful western forces, so it is becoming the fight of those affected against the rebels and the Russian Separatists who we have seen looting the crash site and potentially destroying evidence.

It is astounding to think that any human being can actively step over the body of another, pick up a camera or a wallet and depart with them, likewise that the media can be so keen for a story that they stand in the middle of a field of bodies reporting with no regard for the crime scene.  And that is what we are dealing with.  The news clips are terrifying.

But how do we bring together International efforts to stand up for the rights of those lost and not allow political, terrorist, or separatist forces to standover their bodies and do nothing?  Do you have a view or experience on this?

(Pro Russian Separatists stand guard)
