Qantas is back on their feet… But have you been supporting them?

After the dismal loss posted by Australia’s leading airline last year, this year was a turbulent time for the organisation. However, lower fuel costs and a large restructuring of the company has had a positive impact with the company posting a half year profit of $367 million.

The airline, that was awarded safest airline in the world, doesn’t always seem to have the support from its own people. We asked the Starts at 60 community a while ago who they choose to fly with and a large number of people said they choose to fly with one of the cheaper airlines like Jetstar and Tiger before flying Qantas.

It appeared as though the general public believe the airline is too expensive despite having the best safety in the world and being an inclusive airline.

I did some playing around with the booking websites for a few different “budget” airlines last and found that by the time I had purchased the flight, chosen my seat, selected checked baggage, purchased a small meal that could only be described as a snack and selected in-flight entertainment options, the cost was actually more expensive than the fare I would pay with Qantas – all of that included.

So are the budget airlines having a laugh when they call themselves budget? Because by the time we pay for the equivalent service (albeit without the safety) of Qantas on a budget airline, Qantas looks like the more budget option!

Tell us, do you fly with Qantas? Or what other airline do you fly with? Do you find it too expensive or have you also noticed budget airlines are equally pricey? Share your stories in the comments below…
